Brett Favre: What's up?

UPDATE: According to one media source, this information about Favre using a team phone is allegedly incorrect.

Hey, I love Brett Favre. But he's acting a bit stupid these days. From today's Star Tribune:

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that a source said Favre continued to use a Packers-issued cell phone after his retirement and that when the team checked the phone records, there were "repeated calls to coach Brad Childress and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell."

OK, that's just dumb. He should know much better than that. I don't think he's going to end up with the Vikings anytime soon.

The Bicyclist is back!

Season 2 of The Bicyclist is back! I guess it must be warm enough in Portland for them to be filming. In Minnesota, it's still snow-covered and under 10 degrees.

This is a great internet-only series. You may have to watch a handful of Season 1 episodes to get the full appreciation for it.

Brett Favre: End of an era

Looks like Brett Favre will be retiring and return to the Green Bay Packers this year. After such a great year, it's sad to see him go. But I'm sure it'll be nice for him to end on a high note. The Packers will need to get a good quarterback to head up their fairly solid team next year. They are probably not in a strong position for the playoffs next year, but hopefully they can at least beat the Vikings a couple times.

It's too bad the Packers were unable to manage a Super Bowl game this year. One can take some heart that they got pummeled by the same team that went on to win the Super Bowl against the undefeated Patriots.

As everyone else will be saying, it is the end of an era for the Packers. My guess is that the loss of Brett Favre won't result in any problems filling up the stadium next season. (Unlike the Vikings.)

Packers drop the ball, literally

Facing the second to last game of the regular season, the Packers were just one game behind the Dallas Cowboys in gaining home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Football fans may know that the Packers do have a history of successful home games in Green Bay during the cold season. Unfortunately, the Cowboys won the previous night. Still, if the Packers could win their final two games against mediocre opponents and the Cowboys lost their final game, the Packers would be on top. With the Cowboys diminished playing recently, this was a very plausible scenario.

And during one of their best seasons ever, the Packers played one of their worst games. Besides losing the chance for home field advantage, Packer fans also were saddened by the embarrassing loss to the Chicago Bears of all teams.

The final score was 35-7. Favre threw for a mere 153 yards (and only 9 in the first half). He threw 2 interceptions (one run in for a touchdown). Two punts were blocked (one run in for a touchdown). And the Packers generally couldn't hold on to the ball at all.

Sure it was cold. It was 16 degrees with snow falling and wind gusts exceeding 40 mph. It looked like a difficult game. Still, it's an ominous sign for Packers fans hopeful for a Super Bowl appearance.

Go Packers!

Thursday night is the big NFL game featuring the Green Bay Packers against the Dallas Cowboys. The game will be played in Texas.

The Cowboys are favored to win by 6 points. It should be a competitive and key game.

Not only is a potentially key game for the two best teams in the conference, but an opportunity for the Packers and Brett Favre to beat the Cowboys in their own stadium. Something that hasn't been done in 10 odd games in the last decade. In the 90s when the Packers were losing to the Cowboys over and over again, I thought the Cowboys played kind of dirty. That was through the eyes of an objective resident of Green Bay, Wisconsin.

At least they don't spy on opponents' coaching staff...

Showing some green and gold spirit!
